Hillview Acres Playgroup

Hillview Acres Play Date!
When: Friday, May 7th
Time: 11-4:00pm

This play date will take place at Lisa Packard's parent's house. They have 3 acres of land and lots to do for little ones! There is a train that the kids (and adults) can ride on around the property! Also there is a play structure, play house and a gated tot lot for toddlers! If you have older children there is a basketball hoop and soccer goals! You can come anytime Friday between the hours given above. It is really pretty and green, so if you would like, you are more than welcome to bring a picnic with blankets to layout and eat on with your clan! Drinks will be provided.

April Activity: April 29th, If you are interested putting together 72-hour food kits for your family, we will be assembling them on April 29th at the church in the Multi-purpose room.
The cost of the kit will be $8.25 per kit. Show up any time between 5 and 8pm to assemble your kit. If you would like a kit but will be unable to be there to assemble it please contact Sis. Roskelley.
May Activity: Stuff Swap! All of that spring cleaning you have been doing will finally have a place to go. If you have things laying around the house waiting to go the thrift store bring them to the church on May 27th between 5 and 8pm.

Volleyball

Practicing frugality is becoming more and more necessary for consumers as income remains stagnant or decreases and prices continue to rise. If the thought of stockpiling your groceries and other household needs seems to be a step in the wrong direction, consider the following......

At first glance, the concept of stocking up appears to be at odds with the concept of frugality. After all, by definition frugality means that one should practice economical strategies in the purchase and use of resources, natural and man made. Doesn’t the idea of stocking up seem to be contrary to this concept? Perhaps it does, but nonetheless, if practiced carefully, stocking up can be quite an economical strategy that leads to exceptional frugality. Using the strategy of stocking up on various products can lead to quite a savings on resources and finances.
Stocking up on certain types of household, car, garden, personal needs, and other types of supplies or needs is something that should be thought out carefully. It begins with a knowledge of what you need on a regular basis, where you can store these items, and what price range makes it worthwhile to purchase in bulk. Following certain guidelines when making your purchases will circumvent potential problems while maximizing your savings.

Know the Amount of Storage Space You Have
Before stocking up on any type of product whatsoever, it is essential that you know how much space you have available for storing it. Where you keep your items is almost as important as whether or not you have a true need for it. After all, if you store your stockpile items in some out-of-the-way location, you might forget that you have them. If this happens, then the item can go to waste if it has a specific shelf life and you can end up spending even more money than you would have if you hadn’t done any stocking up.
The best place to store your extra items is in a place that is easily accessible. A spare shelf in a closet, a built in or stand alone pantry, or even a back room can be used to store your stockpiled items. Plus, you should always store your items in the same location so that you remember where they are. The easier these items are to get to, the more likely it is that you will remember to use them.

Categorize Your Stockpile
One of the easiest strategies that you can use to stay aware of what you have in your stockpile is to categorize your purchases. Place similar items in the same area. Not only does this allow you to find them easily, but also, it decreases the amount of time needed to search through your stockpile when updating your needs. For example, if you are stocking up on personal hygiene needs such as body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant, they should all be stored in the same general area. Perhaps you can clear a shelf in the linen closet to make room for your stockpile. For food items, a stand alone pantry or a few shelves in the kitchen should be sufficient to hold your stockpile. Again, place similar items together.

Create a List of Needed Items
Whether you store the list in your head or you write it down, you need to maintain a list of items that you are running low on. If you maintain a list of items that need to be replenished, then you don’t miss out on an opportunity to stock up on something that you are running low on. It is too easy to bypass a good sale simply because you think that you don’t need an item. After all, buying too much of a good thing can easily turn into a bad thing if the shelf life of the item isn’t sufficient enough for your use of the product. Take this strategy a bit further and take into consideration the possibility of family gatherings or parties that might necessitate purchases on a slightly larger scale.

Stockpile When the Price is Unbeatable
If you want the best return for your money, paying attention to the price variations on any type of product is essential. If you monitor store sales for several weeks or months, you will be able to get a handle on the price fluctuations so that you know just how low a price might go. Manufacturers like to vary their prices according to their marketing schemes and therefore, different times of the month or year will bring about lower prices. Therefore, if you pay attention to these fluctuations on the market, you can plan your stockpiling strategies more efficiently.
Resist the urge to purchase large quantities of items when the price is lower than usual but not a great deal lower. The best time to stockpile is when the price is as low as it is likely to get. The shopping lists provided at PinchingYourPennies.com are a key element in knowing when to stock up an item. Using our shopping lists, you can quickly spot 4 and 5 star deals. 5 star deals on the shopping lists are rock-bottom, stock-up prices. Our deal finders and listmakers have years of experience tracking sales and item prices.
If you can avoid becoming brand conscious, then you can take advantage of clearance sales on discontinued brands and products. The savings on clearance items is often as much as 50% to 75% of the original purchase price. For example, after most holiday seasons end, most stores place their holiday items on sale. Even though you might not want any more Christmas candy, the stores often reduce the prices of products that they have overstocked including baking items, canned and candied fruits or nuts, spices, baking pans, and more. This fact makes after holiday sales a perfect time to stockpile a few items.

Don’t Worry about Stockpiling Everything All at Once
It is important to remember that you don’t need to do all of your stockpiling all at once either. If you need something and it isn’t on sale for a good price, then simply purchase one of the item or the quantity that you need. Otherwise, don’t purchase anything that you don’t need until you can obtain it for a good price.
After a few months of shopping with a stockpiling strategy, you will discover that you rarely run out of any of the items that you typically stockpile. Your purchasing habits will become cyclical as they begin to follow the cycles of sales that occur on a consistent basis. Additionally, you will begin to see a savings in your monthly expenditure as you reap the benefits of not ever having to purchase any of these items at full price.

Avoid Stockpiling Items That You Won’t Use
As you begin to look for bargains to stockpile, you will come across great deals on items that you have no real use for or need of. It is so easy to get caught up in the terrific savings that someone would get if they purchased these items. However, there’s no bargain if you purchase something that you aren’t ever going to need simply because it is on sale for 90% off of the original price. For example, quite often seasonal items will go on sale at drastically reduced prices. However, if these items are products that you will never use, then you would waste money with a purchase of them. Buying something because it is ten cents is pointless if you are never going to use the item. However, if you are looking for a charitable donation, you can always purchase such items and donate them to a local shelter or food pantry that can use them.

Avoid Stockpiling Perishable Items
Perishable items such as produce, bakery items, and other items with a short shelf life are not good items to stockpile. Chances are that these items will go bad before you ever get to use all of them should you decide to stockpile them. For items with an expiration date, you can calculate how many you would be able to use before the expiration date arrives and purchase that quantity. In fact, check the expiration dates on a number of the product as this will probably vary by as much as several months. Purchase the ones that have the expiration date that offers the longest shelf life.

Maintain Your Stockpile
Once you set up a place to store your stockpile, you need to remember to maintain it. Since many of the items will have expiration dates on them, you need to rotate your purchase so that the earliest expiration dates remain in the front of the stockpile. This strategy pertains to both perishable and nonperishable items. One of the strategies that you can use is to take a black marker and label the items in large numbers with their expiration dates on them.

Have Realistic Expectations
One of the most important facets about stocking up that one needs to understand is that the financial benefits are not seen immediately. After all, it is quite possible that initially you will be spending slightly more money than usual. However, after several weeks, you will begin to see savings as you spend less because you already have the item at home. At the very least, you will be able to keep up with the rise in cost as you continue stocking up when the items are on sale.

In A statement published on the Church's Official Web site, Church President Thomas S. Monson and counselors Henry B. Eyring and Dieter F. Uchtdorf said they are "keenly aware that many in America are dealing with economic challenges brought on by the recent recession." Many Church mombers have made substantial contributions to Church Humanitarian Services, but more is needed. Church members and others wishing to contribute to the aid efforts may do so by using the Donation Slip they normally use for Church donations or by logging onto lds.org and clicking on Humanitarian Services Emergency Response.

Kelly C. has selected "St. John's Shelter for Women and Children" in Sacramento to donate the dresses to. The folks at the shelte were very excited to know they'd receive so many wonderful things. If you'd like to go with Kelly C. to the shelter to present the dresses, just call her- she'd love to have people go with her.

Also, to those who donated dresses:
If you have a minute, please write down a little note of encouragement to the ladies that will be receiving the dresses. A happy little note (and testimony) goes a long way when you're down on your luck. This can be a little seed that is planted... Give the notes to Kelly C. ASAP so they can go with the dresses.

The story of the Ward Adult Christmas Party

Once upon a time there was an Enrichment Counselor. She learned an important lesson in that you need to book the gym/cultural hall for big events one year ahead of time. So last December she booked the gym/cultural hall for the entire upcoming year. She decided that Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 would be the night for our Relief Society Enrichment Christmas Dinner (since all other big enrichment activities are on Thursdays).

Then one day, the Bishopric came up with an outstanding idea (they are inspired, you know). In not exactly these words, they said, "Let's have an all adult Christmas Dinner on that same night-instead of just Enrichment. That would be a great time to invite non members and inactives and build a little ward unity during the Christmas season" (or something like that).

There were some that asked the question, "But it's a school night. That will be hard to be out in the evening with everything the dear children must do" (practices, homework, showers, bedtimes) and besides, I want to be home in my comfy clothes sipping hot chocolate."

"Yes, that is true," one wise leader said. "There will always be things that come up. But this will be such a nice evening that no one should want to miss it. And besides- they'll do their best to keep things nice and quick."

That Enrichment Counselor said, "A Ward Adult Christmas dinner is a great idea-I'll enlist the help of my Enrichment leader, the HP group leader and the EQ presidency" (and their remaining budgets). And so they started their Ward Adult Christmas Dinner plans. What a wonderful event they have prepared...a fine evening of dinner and entertainment.

The ward choir is just starting to learn Christmas Music for the Christmas themed Sacrament Mtg. on Dec. 20. We would love to have more singers to join in as "angelic voices." There will be a lot of visitors in that mtg. and this is a great way to share the gospel and our testimonies of Christ.

Choir is held at 10:00am at the Rice home. Babysitters are there to look after the kids and sometimes (no promises!) there are yummy treats! Here are the dates- mark them on your calendar and join in!

Here's a great opportunity for everyone in the ward. Timi W. so wonderfully has scheduled a time to go to the Cannery.
It is Tues. Nov. 10 from 11-1.
Please call Timi W. if you want to go. This would be a great time to go with the ladies you VT (hint, hint).
I, Jessie R., am totally volunteering to watch anyone's kids if you want to go and need a sitter. This is a big deal and I want to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to go. Call me, too, so I know who to plan for.

"Hello! I am writing on behalf of Kaseberg school's PTC. We are holding our annual Fall Family Festival on Oct. 23rd from 5-8 p.m. and are in dire need of volunteers! Every year we try to recruit at least 100 volunteers to operate carnival-style game booths, serve food, and help with set-up and take-down. We do this to allow our staff and parents to enjoy the festival, instead of asking them to help operate.This year we are not getting very many responses. As part of the evening we will be showing a wonderful Temple Picture Montage. We need YOUR help with this. We need a picture of you in front of a Temple. It doesn't matter what kind of picture of you (you while on your mission in front of a Temple, your family in front of a Temple, a wedding picture in front of a Temple, etc.). Please send it to roseville9rs@hotmail.com or send it to jessierice1@hotmail.com or hand it to Jessie Rice at church ASAP. Otherwise you'll be getting several knocks on your door...and several phone calls... ...:)

Also, please look for sign up sheets that will be passed around on Sunday in regards to this Enrichment. There is 1 set of sign ups of Primary and Nursery, 1 set for the Young Women, and 1 set for the Relief Society. Young Women are welcome to sign up as well. More detailed information is on the sign ups. We would like:
1) people to bring finger foods/appetizers
2) to borrow any kind of greenery you have (trees, ivy, plants...alive or silk)
3) people to bring and set up Temple Displays

Ward Temple Assignment

The stake Temple day is THIS Saturday (the 8th). Our ward assignment is sealings. We need 4 women and 4 men (doesn't have to be married couples) to do the sealings. You need to be fully dressed and waiting outside Sealing Room 3 inside the Temple at 8:30am. If you would like to help fulfill our ward assigment please call Brother Rice 760-7979.

We'll be taking a trip to the Indian Museum, Nature Learning Center & Historic Site.

"Stuff Swap"
and all sisters AND nonmembers are invited.

A Stuff Swap is like a big group garage sale but with no money being exchanged. Bring anything you'd like to get rid of. Someone might be able to make it their treasure! You can bring stuff and walk away with something or with nothing. OR you can come with nothing and walk away with something. Anything left over will go into the DI trailer that night.

This one is for Wednesday, July 15. The group will do the Pre-school Storytime at the Riley library that starts at 9:30 sharp (be early) and then play in the little park area directly behind the library.

Hey sisters-

Don't give your older stuff to DI just yet. We're holding a Stuff Swap soon. To put it in a nutshell, it's a garage sale without exchanging any money. If you have stuff (not junk, useable stuff) to get rid of, bring it. If you're looking for some treasures, come on over. And don't worry, you don't have to bring stuff to take stuff. It's just a free for all. I'll check with the building coordinator and reserve a room at the church. I haven't decided yet on a date. . .If you have any requests send them to the RS email. I previously stated the first week of August but I'm thinking more the first week of September but I'll let you know soon. But start saving your stuff now!!!

Thanks for all those who came to our Enrichment Dinner on June 4. It was a great success and the best part- it was so nice and simple! Everyone enjoys a little simplicity once in a while. Hello Sisters!

Due to the crazy weather we've had these past couple days, I've decided to move tonight's enrichment dinner to the church. I guess it's better to be on the safe side! You don't need to bring your own lawn chair anymore. . . and there will be child care this evening starting at 6:30. Will you all please call the sisters you Visit Teach to make sure they've all heard the change. I'll be calling everyone too. I just would hate to miss someone and not get the word out!

THIS SUNDAY NIGHT (May 17) at 7:00 pm is a Stake Relief Society sponsored Fireside entitled "Lessons in Hope and Peace." It will be in the chapel of the church building. It will be a very uplifting experience for all sisters ages 18+.

NEXT THURSDAY NIGHT (May 21) at 7:00 pm is a Ward Relief Society Activity entitled "The Gift of Time." It will be in the multi-purpose room of the church building. Please call the sisters you Visit Teach to make sure they'll attend and one great way to get them there is to carpool! The more the merrier!

The Roseville libraries hold preschool story time at Whole Foods Market twice a month.
In May the dates are:
Wed. May 13th – Lisa Eck will be the librarian
Thurs. May 28th – Toni Mann (from our ward) will be the librarian
Both run from 10:30am-11:00am and are held in the children’s area at Whole Foods.

Mark on your calendars: June 4 is our big Quarterly Enrichment Dinner and Activity. It will start at 6:30pm and will be at Charitie Horsley's house. More information to follow.

Dry Pack Canner

Hello everyone! Charitie Horsley wanted the word to get out that she has rented the dry pack canner for us to use from March 30-April 2. If we were to try to rent it ourselves, the wait time now is about 6-8 weeks- so this is a great opportunity. If you go to the Cannery in Sac, you need buy and use the food they provide. If you do it at the Horsley's, you could can whatever you'd like. You still need to provide your own #10 cans and oxygen packs, though. Charitie is really good with canning. . . she could answer any questions you have. Call her if you'd like to use the canner. Happy Canning!!!!

Toni Diane Amundsen

As many of you know, Sister Diane Amundsen passed away early Sunday Morning. There will be a Memorial Service for her this Saturday at the church building at 10:30am. Before she left us, she planned to give away some of her possesions to the sisters in the ward. She had many nice clothing items, some still with tags (sizes L - 2X), and lots of shoes (sizes 9.5 W and 10 W). If any of the sisters have needs, or are aware of other sisters (those they visit teach or know could use some help) who may be able to use these items please have them contact Christine Cleveland so that we can find good homes for Sister Amundsen's generous donations.

Emergency Preparedness Goals

As a Relief Society Presidency, we feel it is really important for the sisters to work on their emergency prepardness plans and supplies. We received from the Stake Relief Society Presidency a booklet containing 1 year's worth of goals. By the end of December 2009 you will have 1 years food storage. The information is broken down month to month. Some goals are pretty lofty and we suggest you do just whatever you can for each month. As long as you're working towards a goal you're doing the right thing!

We have made copies for each sister in the ward and will be handing them out starting Thursday night (72 hr kit activity). We'll also be posting it each month on this blog. We're a little late on the January- so sorry!

JANUARY

She has said that whoever reads the entire Doctrine & Covenants by the end of this year, you will be invited to a very special dinner hosted by her and her husband. When you finish reading it, let her know and she'll put you on the list for dinner!
-A really awesome sister in our ward would like to start babysitting on a consistent basis. If you're looking for someone to watch your kids- like everyday from 8-5, or every Tuesday and Thursday from 10-12 for examples, please email the relief society so we can pass your name on to her.

So today and tomorrow are the last days to sign up for the TruFitness Challenge. I know it's not specifically related to Relief Society, but it TOTALLY relates to many sisters in the Relief Society so I figured it was okay to post. I signed up yesterday and these are the details:

-You DO NOT have to be a TruFitness Member (Check to see if you can freeze your other gym meberships if you have one)
-It lasts from Saturday, Jan 10-March 9
-It costs $28 for that entire time
-You have full access to gym, personal trainers, group classes, and childcare
-To finish the Challenge, you must complete 24 group classes (works out to be 3 a week)
-You can buy an unlimited monthly childcare pass:
3+ kids: $30
2 kids: $25
1 kid: $20
-This Saturday, Jan. 10 from 8am-2 pm is when they take measurements and weights so you can see your progress at the end
-If and when you finish the challenge, you get a couple of perks (forgot what they are)
-You can write Shelby Armstrong as the person who referred you

New Years Resolution. . . again?!

Well, you're in luck! Shelby Armstrong told me about a really great program that TruFitness Gym is offering. You DON'T have to be a member of the gym to do it! In a nutshell- you register, they take your beginning measurements (aahhh!), do a certain amount of classes in 8 weeks, and see the finished product- a better you! Go to their webpage for details.

Hey! We had an excellent enrichment night last week. We had 20 people and we are so happy about it. Sister Smilanick, Sheri Weist, and Sondra Brown gave a lot of information about how to start a food storage, how to add upon it, how to grind wheat for flour, where to store your food storage and a lot of other very useful information. Sister Linda Molten wanted everyone to know that she will have the canner at her home starting December 29. For those of you (especially me) who don't know what that is, it means you can go buy bulk sugar, rice, wheat-anything dry basically- at the grocery stoare and the #10 cans and take them to her house and they'll seal it for you. If you can't get your hands on #10 cans, Linda said she'd buy some for you at the cannery and you can reimburse her.
Also, Kelly Cooper and Lori deBernardi are starting a cannery group and of course all are invited. They'd like to take carpooling trips to the cannery and other awesome things to get food storage going.
AND fyi, Heather Pratt is the food storage specialist in our ward so if you have any questions you can ask her and she'll help find the information for you.
I was so surprised at how many people know about food storage in our ward. There are so many resources out there at our fingertips. I've sure caught the food storage fire and I'm going start on it a little better than before. I challenge you . . .

An Enrichment Night Starring . . .

Even though this isn't Relief Society related, it's an important thing to support all sisters in the ward. Choir is just one great way to spend an hour on Sunday afternoons with your family. Of course you don't need to read music to come and when everyone gets together to sing the angels attend and help out when needed!

Church in the News

This is something that's not Relief Society related, but I think is noteworthy. A few weeks ago I came across a story about an LDS couple (Stephanie and Christian) who were in a terrible private plane crash in Arizona (about a month ago). The husband and wife are still in critcal condition and the pilot was killed. This LDS mom is a popular blogger about the ups and downs of motherhood and has quite a following. They have 4 young children who are now in the care of the mom's siblings. Just the other day their story was featured on the Today show and the siblings were interviewed by Matt Lauer. The siblings represented the gospel in such a nice way I just had to share it.

SUPER SATURDAY IS HERE!!!!!!!!

I thought this might be a way to explain in detail all the crafts that we'll be doing on Sept. 20. The table with the samples and sign ups will be out this Sunday, but hopefully this post will answer any questions you might have and help you decide on which crafts you'd like to do. First, let me get the housekeeping items out of the way. . .

1) The sign up sheets and sample table will be under the coat rack across from the library for only 3 Sundays- August 24, August 31, September 7

2) Money and orders are due Wednesday, September 10. Money will need to be given to Jessie Rice

3) Super Saturday is September 20 from 9am-12noon

Okay, let's get to the good stuff.

Craft #1- Quiet Book

Price- $4.50 + $3.50 each additional set

Time- 30 minutes

This book is made of MormonAd postcards glued to cardstock, put in page protectors, and placed in a folder. Each "starter set" includes any 8 MormonAd postcards you choose, 8 pieces of cardstock you choose, 4 page protectors, and 1 folder. The price for the "starter set" is $4.50. You may then purchase and put together "additional sets" for $3.50. It's the same thing only without another folder. There are 56 different styles of MormonAd postcards- so plenty to choose from

Craft #2- The Living Christ Picture Matting

Price- $12 + your own frame

Time- 1 hour

To do this craft, you'll get a package of Greg Olsen Christ pictures and a picture matting. There is a certain way you cut and stick on the pictures to the matting. The $12 price includes the pictures, the matting, and the Living Christ sheet. You will be responsible for providing your own picture frame!

Craft #3- Christmas Photo Album

Price- $5

Time- 45 minutes

This craft is made from brown paper bags that are sewn together (that will be done for you). You'll apply Christmas scrapbook paper, ribbons, buttons, etc. to do the decorating. The paper and scrapbook supplies will be almost identical to the sample already done. You can then take it home and glue your own family Christmas pictures in it. The price will be $5

Craft #4- Blank Stationary Cards

Price- $5

Time- 45 minutes

You will be making 7 blank "all occassion" cards. You'll get a kit with everything you need all cut out for you. You'll just need to copy the samples and glue them on! The price will be $5

Craft #5- Christmas Stocking Hanger

Price- $11 + $1 for every 3 hooks

Time- 1 1/2 hours + 1 hour drying time

This is good to have if you don't have a mantle to hang stockings on or don't want to nail your stockings into the mantle you do have. It will say "I Believe in Santa." You have your choice of vinyl lettering colors and paint colors. They are the same choices. They are: white, cream, red, dark green, black, burgundy. For the sign up sheet, you'll need to notify us of vinyl color, paint color, AND how many hooks you'll need. The price includes board, paint, and vinyl. It will be $11. Add $1 for every 3 hooks you'll need.

Craft #6- BOO! Vinyl Frame

Price- $11

Time- 45 minutes + 1 hour drying time

For this you'll paint a wooden picture frame, apply the word "BOO!" to the glass, glue the glass to the frame and add decorative ribbon for hanging. The colors for vinyl and paint are: black, orange, and white. There will be miscellaneous Halloween ribbon to choose from. Feel free to bring your own ribbon if you have something specific in mind. The price is $11

Craft #7- Give Thanks Vinyl Frame

Cost- $11

Time- 45 minutes + 1 hour drying time

It's the same thing as the BOO! frame only with different vinyl and paint colors, and different ribbon. It will say "Give Thanks." The colors for vinyl and paint are: white, black, sandy beige, gold, dark brown, cream, and dark green. Again, feel free to bring your own ribbon if you want. The price is $11

Craft #8- Prince of Peace Vinyl Frame

Cost- $11

Time- 45 minutes + 1 hour drying time

Okay, same thing as crafts #6 & #7. This one will say "Prince of Peace. The colors for vinyl and paint are: white, black, gold, burgundy, cream, and dark green. Again, again, there will be ribbon provided but bring your own if you'd like. The price, again, is $11

A few more notes. . .If you'll be doing any of the vinyl frames or stocking hanger please try to get there early so you have time to paint the wood and let it dry before Super Saturday is over! Also, the times given are just a general idea. It surely could take you a little longer or shorter depending on you. Keep in mind that these crafts are great for Christmas gifts for extended family and neighbors. This could also be a good missionary experience if you bring an inactive or non member to Super Saturday. Of course they are invited! You could also make them a craft and mention that you made it at church activity and that your church believes in eternal families :) AND, there will be a humanitary project table if you don't want to sign up for a specific craft but would like to help with some service.

Does anyone know anyone local (no shipping prices!!) that does vinyl lettering? The local lady that I was trying to work with has gone on vacation without getting the samples done. I'd like to get our Super Saturday craft samples out this Sunday so we have plenty of time for signing up. So I'm kinda stressing out!!!! Can anyone help! Please call me or email me with info.

Hip Hip Hooray!!! Laura Macy had her baby girl on Monday. They named her ABIGAIL and she weighed 5 lbs. 11 oz. and 19 inches long. Her mom is with her for about 1 week to help, but if you'd like to tag team with another sister in the ward to help out, please call Christine Cleveland to see what Laura's needs are.

Did you all remember that we have a BIG Enrichment Activity in exactly 1 week? It is going to be fantastic!!!! Dinner will be provided as well as childcare. This will be a great one to invite a friend to. We'll be discussing all things summer, specifically things to do with your family, children, and grandchildren. We'll also have a collection of favorite summer recipes from sisters in our ward. And don't forget the socialization of it all! We hope all of you sisters will be there- the more the merrier. Chicken Lasagna Recipe

Hello everyone! We've got a very yummy recipe for you. It's actually a recipe that Ginger Shumway made for the Enrichment night WAY back in March! She had so many requests for it and so did we! It's the chicken lasagna recipe with bread crumbs. Here it is:

8 oz. lasagna noodles
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
1 cup milk
¾ tsp. salt
½ tsp. poultry seasoning
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 cup cottage cheese
½ cup chopped onion
¼ cup minced parsley
4 cups chicken, cooked and shredded
1 ½ cups bread crumbs
3 heaping Tbsp. sour cream
Grated cheddar cheese (to taste)
Grated mozzarella cheese (to taste)
Butter

Cook noodles. Beat cottage cheese, cream cheese, onion, parsley and sour cream together. Add soup, milk, and seasonings. In a large pan, layer noodles, chicken, soup mix, and cheeses. Repeat layers. Cover with bread crumbs. Drizzle some melted butter on top. Bake at 375 for 45 minutes.

Well, we had a WONDERFUL activity last night. So sorry to those of you who couldn't come- you missed out on an amazing activity and thank you to those who did come. The theme was called, "Sweet is the Work" and the topic was about Visiting Teaching (and chocolate). Shelley Gwilliam started the meeting out by telling us that a box of chocolates is really good, but we don't really know what each piece of chocolate is. We can guess, but we can't really enjoy the chocolate until we get right down into it. She compared Visiting Teaching to chocolates and how you have to get right into the work to really know your sisters. And just like each piece of chocolate is different, so is every sister and how do we know what each one is like if we don't try it. We may really like the piece of chocolate (or sister we teach).

We then watch a FUNNY video about the silly ways we visit teach- like a phone call at 11:59pm the last night of the month, the "Family Affair" skit where the 2 visiting teachers bring all their kids and it's total chaos, and so many more. Then there was a beautiful musical number by Lisa Blaser, Erica Roskelley, Susan Biery, Michelle Heiler, Christine Cleveland, and me (Jessie). Who knew Erica, Susan, and Michelle could sing!!!!!! Awesome.

THEN, we had 4 very inspirational- slightly magical- personal stories about Visiting Teaching by Barbara Aldridge, Kelly Trythall, Sharon White, and Sheri Weist. There was hardly a dry eye.

I think all of us walked out of that room refreshed, happy, with lighter loads to carry, and much more sensitive to what Heavenly Father NEEDS us to do. Then of course we dug right into the CHOCOLATE. Let's see if I can name everything. . .

Are you all ready for the chocolate buffet and spiritual feast on Thursday night??!! It starts at 7:00pm and it's in the multi-purpose room (the one hooked onto the kitchen). Yea, there's a nursery provided for your kids to play and run off extra energy! This would be a great activity to carpool to so call the ladies you visit teach and even your partner to make sure they will be there and they have a ride. Make sure you bring your sweet tooth!!!!!!

FHE Treat Idea

I know it's a little last minute to do tonight, but here's an idea that our family likes to have for FHE treats every once in a while. They're called Oven Smores. The recipe is a good one because it's just a "do what you want" kind of recipe. This is what you need:

Chips Ahoy Cookies

Marshmallows (mini ones melt better, but you can cut the large ones into smaller pieces)

Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate Squares

Prehead the oven to 350 degrees. Lay however many cookies you want with the flat side down on a baking sheet. Chop up the Baking Chocolate into smaller, easier to melt pieces or chunks. Use however much you want. Then put about 4 mini marshmallows on top, or a large marshmallow cut into 4 pieces. Bake just that for 4-6 min. Then put a second cookie on top of each smore to make the sandwich and bake another 2-4 min. It's just however you want you smore's. Just keep your eye on them so the chocolate doesn't melt all over. They'll be pretty hot when they come out of the oven, so wait a couple of minutes. The cookies turn out just right and don't crumble when you bite into the smores sandwich. We figured out that Hershey's candy bars don't melt right, so don't use those. I hope you like it!!!

Mom and Me and Girl's Night Out

Hey Everyone! For the summer months of June, July, and August the R.S. Enrichment will be putting together Mom and Me dates. If any of you have ideas of where to have the Mom and Me, email them to roseville9rs@hotmail.com or jessierice1@hotmail.com. Parks are of course a good idea. Also, we can consider doing it at people's houses and indoors during the really hot weeks starting in the middle of July. We can even add some field trips if anyone is interested. We'll probably hold them early in the mornings 9:30-10:30ish but we're open to opinions. There's a poll on the sidebar to take a majority vote of which mornings work best for your family.

Also, for the summer months, we thought it would be fun to add a Girl's Night Out just once a month. The weather is warmer, the sun is out longer, and we don't have kids to frantically get ready for school the next morning. We feel there is a need for the women of the ward to get together once in a while and just relax. Please email with any ideas of where to go and what to do.

We'll put together a calendar of events in the next weeks. Please, please, send us your opinions so we can satisfy as many people as possible!!!!!

As a Presidency, we realized that we have so many sisters who serve in other auxillaries like YW and Primary. We also have some sisters that are are unable to attend church at all. We thought it would be a good idea to start a Relief Society Blog so that everyone who has access can catch up on what's going on. And besides, don't we ALL want to know what's going on?! We'll try to post as often as we can. On the right hand side, we've got spaces for new move ins and move outs. On the bottom we've got a space for Haves and Needs in the ward. This can be for furniture, clothes, service opportunities or anything else you can think of that others might need or have. We'd like this to be a nice place where you can go to be uplifted and hear of good news. So please, if you have anything you'd like us to post, we'd be happy to put it on for you.
